I tip my hat to you...
I wish I had known you better, Grumpy, but your reputation is known by all. Your mods set a standard, that all others are judged by, and your ground breaking discoveries gave new life to the Morrowind universe. When I first came into the community, I remember admiring your skill, and abilities. You've inspired all of us. You were a great man, and I tip my hat to you.

Goodbye Grumpy
I am not one of the modding regulars and in fact never posted. I am not a modder but I love my MW Mods and go through forums etc regularly, and so know about Grumpy's work.

I play MW only occasionally now and check posts less often, so I am quite shocked to hear about this. But with this in mind I can only offer my respect to Grumpy, though he was very ill, continued to work and play and share his ideas and mods with us - strangers he does not know.

Years from now there will still be Grumpy's Mods, and mods based on his work. In those and in the memories of those who know him he will live forever.

Simon, Birmingham (UK), 2005-08-08 18:50:54

Goodbye dear soul, until next we meet
I never knew Grumpy personally, but I knew used much of his modding-work. He was a great modder, an important part of our TES community and I'm sure he was a nice and caring person, as Emma said.

Death is only another journey.
Dear Dennis, I am so sorry that you died of cancer, but the more happy I am, now that you are without pain and that you met with God.

May the Lord's grace always protect and shine upon your soul

Asfaloth, Germany, 2005-08-05 20:21:33

Farewell to a founder
So much can be said, but words have escaped me...the loss is great and I know the entire community feels it. Would that I had known Grumpy the person in addition to Grumpy the modder, but I, and the rest of this community have his creations to enjoy, share, and learn from - in that way he is immortal. There are modders and then there are creators like Grumpy, a true elder stateman and pioneer of the Morrowind modding community. Thank you for showing the way...

Warm summer sun,
shine brightly here,
Warm Southern wind,
blow softly here,
Green sod above,
lie light, lie light,
Good night, dear heart;
good night, good night.
-Mark Twain

Fare thee well and safe travels Grumpy...the hereafter is richer for welcoming you.

NO FAREWELL GRUMPY
Grumpy,
May the road rise to meet you,
may the wind be always at your back,
may the sun shine warm,
upon your face,
the rains fall soft upon your fields and,
until we meet you there
may God hold you in the palms of His hand

"There are other worlds than these."
What was it that Aragorn said in The Lord of the Rings?

"Behold! We are not bound for ever to the circles of the world, and beyond them is more than memory."

Farewell, Grumpy. Good luck on your journey.

Balathustrius, 2005-08-05 00:15:45

I'm Sorry That I Never Got The Chance To Know You
I'm a gamer but not much of a joiner but I think that we must have had a shared vision of the TESCS as a key to a doorway to a wonderful playground for the imagination - where anything's possible if you just know how to use the tools. As I delve into the Morrowind web sites and forums looking for information and bits and pieces to incorporate into my visions, I see your name in many posts and plug in credits. I wish I had begun exploring the TESCS earlier so that I could have thanked you and perhaps shared an idea or two.

John Baumgartner, 2005-08-03 15:52:14

Fare thee well, Grumpy
With great sadness I have read this news of Grumpy's passing. I have been away from Morrowind for two months, and decided to catch up a bit. As Emma's site is one of my favorites, I came to see what was happening here. Now I am having a hard time holding back the tears.

Grumpy, I never met you in person, but I knew what type of a person you were. Everywhere you left your mark, it was with helpfullness and kindness. Your insights into modding and scripting, as well as real life, were nothing short of amazing. The care you put into the things which you designed for the purpose of sharing them demonstrated well the care and respect which you held for other people, even many of those whom you had never met. It was only recently that I even learned your name, but despite never having had the pleasure of meeting you, still I felt friendship toward you. In heaven, you will be able to mod in real life, and I am sure you will feel very much at home there. I also know that you will continue to be kind and helpful and loving to others, as that is the kind of person you are. Rest in peace, good sir, untill the day of the great awakening when our God shall make all things new.
In the mean time, you shall certainly be fondly remembered and honored in the halls of the great castles of Eveera, and in the hearts of this Eveeran and all of the other people to whome you showed such kindness.

It is with great sorrow that I bid you farewell, but with great gladness that I look forward to meeting you at last in heaven.

Fare thee well on thy magnificant journey.
I didn't know him, but from all that i've read, he would have been a wonderful aquaintence. Fate can be a harsh lady, at times, she seems to take the best of us first. But, fate was kind as to have put someone as warm-hearted as Grumpy on this world in the first place. May god be with you and eternity treat you good, wherever you may be now.

R.I.P.
Well, I never knew him, but I did know of him and of his mods. I wish I could say more than it was a shame that he had passed away and the usual said things along those lines, but when it comes to this area of words my vocabulary lacks a tremendous amount. *Sigh*

Well, may you R.I.P. Grumpy.

Talented Modder
Having been away from the Morrowind modding community for a while, I stopped in to read the forums and heard this terrible news.

Though I did not know him, I can see Grumpy was a talented modder and a much loved member of the TES community.

Rest in peace Grumpy, and I hope all who play your mods will remember you fondly and keep your memory alive.

Farewell Grumpy
I've never met him, I've never talked to him, but the contribution of Emma broke me almost to cry.
He must have been a wonderfull person according to emmas description.

Thanks for all the work you have done and may your Soul find Peace after the horrific illness.

Emma, be strong, attach in to what he has created and keep him in honor.

My condolences from Germany...

In Memory....
I didn't know Grumpy at all but from what I've read about him, he was a good man and he's missed greatly by many people. I feel he deserves to be recognized by as many people as possible, if just for the simple fact that his work should be remembered forever.

Rest in peace Grumpy...

So long, bro, he isn't in any pain now - and he knows that he will always be alive in us.If the afterlife is anything like I hope it is, Grumpy is having the time of his life, so to speak. Farewell Grumpy
I just found about this great tradegy and am saddened by his passing.

While I too never truly got to know him well, the impression I got from him in the forum talks and from mods he created was that he was both a great modder and great person and he will be truly missed.

May you rest in peace

Farewell old friend.
I first met Grumpy 3 years ago, back when he first started on the companion mods & code. We worked together for several months on some projects, & wrote frequently. Though I eventually was forced to exit the mod scene, I never forgot him, & always kept an eye out for his work in the modding community.

You will be missed, old friend. God bless.

Anthony (Devlor), Georgia, USA, 2005-07-13 20:51:53

A great loss
Many will say, "Though I did not know Gumpy personally," but that is not true. We all knew Grumpy, even if we had never actually met him. We read his name. We saw his Avatar. We downloaded his mods.

His work is amazing. It forever will be. People say that he will live on forever, too. Is this possible? No. It is possible to keep him in our minds and in our hearts. It is possible to pass his story down and continue his legacy of that which is modding. It is possible to give condolences to those in need.

While all these things may be hard to do with him in your mind, they will also make you become stronger, as Grumpy was. By continuing his work so close to his last breath, Grumpy has proved to everyone what a kind heart he really had.

Not only will he be missed in the Morrowind Community, but he will be respected and honored deeply.

i hope he sees this
I hope somewhere somehow he sees how much he touched other peoples lives with such a small gesture as modding. I for one love his asgard mod and its mandatory for my game. to find out today that the creator of such a beautiful place of such great complexity and little touches has passed on saddens me horribly. May his soul find peace. And hopefuly he knows that he is missed.

A Sad Farewell To A Valued Friend
I didn't know Grumpy personally, but I certainly knew his work. And through his work his integrity and dedication shined through. Having personally lost friends and family to cancer, I know firsthand what a #@#$#d up disease it is. Grumpy deserves the best in his passing, and my heart goes out to his loved ones. His work will never be forgotten by the TES modding community, and his spirit will certainly live on in the hearts and souls of all of us Outlanders!

I've loved grumpy an Emmea's mods form the beginning when I first started playing in 2003. I Grieve for the of grumpy and wish he could still live a wee bit longer. Cancer is a cruel with no remorse of who it kills or who it chooses to kill, whether it be friend or foe,or a loved one. I hope Grumpy finds more peace in the next world than in this one.

In loving memory..
I'm just a 14 year old kid frpm sweden, and I didn't even know Grumpy. But, He and Emma inspired me so much about modding for morrowind (they actually made me to begin modding). I'm sure that many people around the world, who played his mods will remember him in a very long time. gosh, I feel so sorry for Emma :(
Grumpy, I will miss you.

IN MEMORIAM
Time to say goodbye...Not to a person, not even to an excellent Morrowind modder, but to a symbol. You know, it doesn't really matter if I knew him in person or i just enjoyed his state-of-the-art work.It doesn't even matter if we lost him to cancer or to any other desease. We just lost him. We did lose another of those good men. And that really HURTS.

I just wish i knew how to implement grumpy as a character in my morrowind world, as a companion...That would be the least i could do for his memory.

I didn't know Grumpy, but when any member of a community leaves, it is a solemn occasion. When a member departs the world indefinately, the heavens themselves weep.

Keep a seat open for me, kamerad.

Much Love from Texas
I never have known Grumpy personally, but I do know his mods very well. Grumpy's work is some of the best in the modding community; He held the apex of Morrowind Scripting.

May he Rest in Peace.

I'll miss you Grumpy
Damn...That really sucks, his mods were great. He will forever be in the memory of modders everywhere.
Kind of the wrong place to post this, but, I'm in need of assisstance in creating a mod that gives memorials to all the great modders. (Emma, Grumpy, Canadian Ice, etc.) E-mail me to help create this at napalmpriest@yahoo.com

Never forgotten
Grumpy was an inspiration to all modders out there, with his tutorials he helped many with learning, he was a great member of the TES community and will be sorely missed, gone but never forgotten.

To a wonderful Modder and Person
Grumpy although I never got to know you personally I know that you were a great person who was always there for other people. You are a legendary modder who broke the limits of the Morrowind engine to provide the players with awsome companions! You will forever be in our hearts and you will be missed dearly. However you are not gone because legends never die. May you rest in peace Grumpy ~ska8tdude

From Australia
I cannot express well how I feel about the loss of Grumpy. He has contributed greatly to my enjoyment of Morrowind, with scripting essential to my favourite mod, as also to the one contributing most to my recent replaying of Morrowind.

But until his death I did not know about that other , more precious side of Grumpy, his simple desire to bring joy to others lives. That is a wonderful thing in any person, and I can say resoundingly that in my case, he has.

He will be sadly missed by those of us who did not know him, but only his mods. And our heart goes out to those who knew him well; and whose loss must be devestating.

Sad
I am new to morrowind and only came there a few weaks ago. But i have already learnt to appriciate it and all the great mods have realy helped. I havent explored youre mods in depth but for the things he devoted to the game i think i speak for most TES gamers that we will miss him. My dad was diagnosed with cancer the other day and i feal sad that this disease is claiming so many lifes.
